Self-adaptive Differential Evolution Based Optimal Power Flow for Units with Non-smooth Fuel Cost Functions
C. Thitithamrongchai,B. Eua-arporn
Journal of Electrical Systems , 2007,
Abstract: This paper presents a self-adaptive differential evolution with augmented Lagrange multiplier method (SADE_ALM) for solving optimal power flow (OPF) problems with non-smooth generator fuel cost curves. The SADE_ALM is a modified version of conventional differential evolution (DE) by integrating mutation factor (F ) and crossover constant (CR ) as additional control variables. An augmented Lagrange multiplier method (ALM) is applied to handle inequality constraints instead of traditional penalty function method, whereas the sum of the violated constraint (SVC ) index is employed to ensure that the final result is the feasible global or quasi-global optimum. The proposed algorithm has been tested with the IEEE 30-bus system with different fuel cost characteristics, i.e. 1) quadratic cost curve model, and 2) quadratic cost curve with rectified sine component model (valve-point effects). Numerical results show that the SADE_ALM provides very impressive results compared with the previous reports.
Multistage Transmission Expansion Planning using Local Branching Method
Somphop Asadamongkol,Bundhit Eua-arporn
Engineering Journal , 2010, DOI: 10.4186/ej.2010.14.4.23
Abstract: This paper proposes a method for solving a large-scale multistage transmission expansion planning problem. The formulated problem is of a large-scale mixed integer linear programming which is difficult to handle by general mathematical optimization techniques. A disjunctive model for a single stage transmission expansion planning is extended for solving the multistage model. In addition, a local branching method is employed with an initial solution obtained from the single stage transmission expansion planning problem. The proposed method has been tested with IEEE 24-bus and a northeastern Thailand power system to show it is efficient to implement for actual power system planning.
A Study on Energy-Related GHG Mitigation Scenario in Thailand
Weerin Wangjiraniran,Bundhit Eua-arporn
Engineering Journal , 2012, DOI: 10.4186/ej.2012.16.2.19
Abstract: The objective of this study is to explore the scenarios of energy-related greenhouse gas mitigation in Thailand to 2030. The picture with no change of government policy which is relied on the existing plan namely ‘reference scenario’ is simulated. Ambitious target of renewable energy deployment with the priority of energy supply security is adopted. Alternatively, a case with undergo progress of the committed plan namely 'case without plan' is also compared to reveal the impact of government policy uncertainty, particularly nuclear power and implementation of road-to-rail policy. This scenario will also present the pessimistic prospect on renewable energy development. On the other hand, a case with more concern on greenhouse gas emission reduction called 'additional plan' is comparatively conducted to evaluate the impact of additional non-existing policies on greenhouse gas mitigation. In this case, the proposed measures in the energy efficiency scheme with more nuclear power generation is considered to minimize the energy-related greenhouse gas in Thailand.
Transmission System Expansion Planning with Consideration of N-1 Security Constraints
Bundhit Eua-arporn,Somphop Asadamongkol
Engineering Journal , 2009, DOI: 10.4186/ej.2009.13.2.59
Abstract: This paper presents a heuristic method for solving transmission system expansion problems (TSEP) with consideration of N-1 security constraints. The method is divided into two phases. An initial plan is established in the first phase by a search process which is based on a modified simplex method and sensitivity indices. The second phase starts from the initial plan and performs the local search in the defined neighborhood. Additionally, reconstruction of the new lines on the existing right of ways, which is one of the interesting issues of TSEP in the urban area, is taken into account. The proposed method provides very satisfactory results compared with others.
Determination of Allowable Capacity of Distributed Generation with Protection Coordination Consideration
Titti Saksornchai,Bundhit Eua-arporn
Engineering Journal , 2009, DOI: 10.4186/ej.2009.13.3.29
Abstract: The presence of distributed generation (DG) provides considerable benefits from both engineering and economic viewpoints. However, it changes radial configuration of the distribution feeders. Consequently it may cause coordination failure to existing protection system which is originally set based on radial configuration. In addition, high penetration level of DG may increase feeder loss, and cause system voltage profile out of a required range. This paper presents an optimization based method to calculate maximum allowable capacity of a DG considering a set of constraints formulated to maintain protection system coordination. In addition feeder loss and system voltage constraints are also taken into account. With the developed methodology, the maximum DG capacity which does not provide adverse effects to the existing system, i.e. violate protection coordination, increase feeder loss, and cause voltage violation, can be obtained.

The Social Sciences , 2013, DOI: 10.3923/sscience.2010.270.275
Abstract: The purposes of this study were to investigate and develop Nong Harn Chalermphrakiat Park to be a source of lotus collection including eco-tourism destination. Publication and education of people in lotus species through academic exhibition and printed material was also studied. Mixed was employed in this research. The physical survey showed that Nong Harn Chalermphrakiat Park is the wetland area and suitable for growth and collection of the lotus species. Moreover, 5 species of tree, 8 species of floating plant and 6 species of aquatic animal were found. In terms of quantitative research, respondents strongly agreed on developing Nong Harn Chalermphrakiat Park as the source of lotus species collection, eco-tourism destination and local economic development (mean = 4.22). The respondents also strongly agreed that tourism would have positive impacts on their community (mean = 4.25); meanwhile, perceived negative impacts of tourism were less concerned than perceived positive impacts (mean = 3.31). After a feasibility study on investigated the development potentiality in the area, the researchers had started to develop this area in order to make it more scenic and prompt to serve visitors. Furthermore, the researchers have conducted academic exhibition and public relations in order to publicize and educate people. In this study, to avoid the long-term development cost, the project needs to make a proper management plan with an emphasis on 3 important elements (3A): Area, Activities and Authorities.

Abstract: Schistosomes are blood-dwelling trematodes with global impact on human and animal health. Because medical treatment is currently based on a single drug, praziquantel, there is urgent need for the development of alternative control strategies. The Schistosoma mansoni genome project provides a platform to study and connect the genetic repertoire of schistosomes to specific biological functions essential for successful parasitism. G protein–coupled receptors (GPCRs) form the largest superfamily of transmembrane receptors throughout the Eumetazoan phyla, including platyhelminths. Due to their involvement in diverse biological processes, their pharmacological importance, and proven druggability, GPCRs are promising targets for new anthelmintics. However, to identify candidate receptors, a more detailed understanding of the roles of GPCR signalling in schistosome biology is essential. An updated phylogenetic analysis of the S. mansoni GPCR genome (GPCRome) is presented, facilitated by updated genome data that allowed a more precise annotation of GPCRs. Additionally, we review the current knowledge on GPCR signalling in this parasite and provide new insights into the potential roles of GPCRs in schistosome reproduction based on the findings of a recent tissue-specific transcriptomic study in paired and unpaired S. mansoni. According to the current analysis, GPCRs contribute to gonad-specific functions but also to nongonad, pairing-dependent processes. The latter may regulate gonad-unrelated functions during the multifaceted male–female interaction. Finally, we compare the schistosome GPCRome to that of another parasitic trematode, Fasciola, and discuss the importance of GPCRs to basic and applied research. Phylogenetic analyses display GPCR diversity in free-living and parasitic platyhelminths and suggest diverse functions in schistosomes. Although their roles need to be substantiated by functional studies in the future, the data support the selection of GPCR candidates for basic and applied studies, invigorating the exploitation of this important receptor class for drug discovery against schistosomes but also other trematodes
The Mélange of Innovation and Tradition in Maltese Law: The Essence of the Maltese Mix?

Potchefstroom Electronic Law Journal/Potchefstroomse Elektroniese Regsblad , 2012,
Abstract: Aim of this paper is to provide valuable insights into the Maltese legal system with a special focus on private law. The assumption is that this legal system is the byproduct of the "mixing" of innovation and tradition, resulting from the interaction of English law and continental law. A major role in the development of the system is played by courts. Some examples (moral damages and pre-contractual liability) are considered which highlight the importance of the function displayed by Maltese judges. KEYWORDS: Tradition; English law; continental law; hybridity; mixed legal systems; Maltese courts; moral damages; pre-contractual liability; lacunae

Abstract: At present, the problem who can and who should solve the question concerning the preparationand recurrent training of pilots of Ukrainian civil aviation is not solved. The necessity of updatingof aircraft’s park in aviation branch and aircraft operation, which was ripened 10 years ago, demands a corresponding infrastructure. It is necessary to understand, that the pilots ready toperform the flights on modern aircrafts, will not appear by themselves, therefore the real actions onmodernization of existing system of aircrew and the aviation personnel preparation as a whole arerequired. Main objective of this work is the determination of the basic components concerning thesolving of the problematic questions on preparation of aircrew on modern types of aircrafts. Duringthe problem analysis it was specified that the present development of system of aircrew preparationin Ukraine is not perfect, and does not correspond the ICAO and EU requirements, therefore needsan immediate intervention at the highest State level. Trainings are not complex, as do not containthe elements of selection of aircrew members cooperation. Abstract: Substantially nonlinear objects function at limitations of arbitrary kind. These limitations are not necessarily convex areas. For such objects the construction of area of the fully the fully-controlled state area is a serious problem. In the article it has been suggested to replace this task the task of the fully-controlled state area estimation from within. The secure estimation method of the fully-controlled state area has been developed for this purpose. Other dynamic system has been used as a tester (measure) of the fully-controlled state area.
